JB, welcome to Bass Fishing 101... Good to see someone trying this sport of Bass Fishing. Here is what I started with maybe it can help you also.

Start out small, one of the quickest and easiest baits to start with is a Road Runner by Blakemore Baits. This little guy will catch just about anything, and Bass Love them..

Next try a good old Plastic Worm, I started out with a double hook plastic worm (Purple I think)these are the ones that come with the hook and line already in the bait, you just tie your line to the line in the bait and start fishing.

All tackle stores carry these baits buy a few go fishing and have fun!!!

Any other questions drop a post to the Pro Staff, we love to help.

CrazyJim,
Welcome to the exciting and unpredictable world of bass fishing. You have come to the right p[lace for answers to questions. Don had good suggestions, here's a couple of mine. Like Don said, keep it simple. Get a 1/4 ounce white bass spinnerbait with a number 3 silver colorado blade, or two small blades, this bait can be buzzed across the surface, fished at mid-depth or skipped along the bottom and be effective. A good topwater bait will also work weel. Jitterbug, Storm Chug Bug or buzzbaits have built-in action. Fish the Jitterbug slowly along the surface, pop the rod tip with the Chug Bug and swim the buzzer at various speeds until a fish responds, remember how fast your retreive was. VERY important, do not set the hook until you feel the weight of the fish, it's difficult not to strike when you see the splash or water movement, but if you do you'll likely only see the bait flying back at you. Good luck, keep in touch, Johnnie

Don and Johnnie are correct, as usual, but I want to add one more lure that many new bass anglers have used to start catching fish.

This little wonder was brought to light by the legendary Virgil Ward's Bass Buster company. It is called the Beetle Spin, and is still available. This is a timeless lure that always seems to be able to put fish in the boat. I would start with 1/8 and 1/4 ounce sizes, in white and chartreuse. Extra bodies are available in spare packages. In fact, you can use a simple curl tail grub in its place if you don't want to purchase the Bass Buster brand. There are a lot of such bodies available on the generic end that are sold in bulk.

Speaking of grubs, there is another excellent lure. Rig it on a lead head jig, and start swimming it with a bumping action. Good colors would be white, black, pumpkinseed, and smoke/red black.

Well better stop here, or I'll just start thinking of more ideas to overflow your new tackle box.
Best of fishing,
Dan

JB, welcoe to BassinUSA. If you dont already have a fishing rod go to Wal-Mart and pick up a $20 combo. You can find a decent set up for short money. Rubber worms, small spinner baits, and floating minnows should be a great start. Good luck buddy.
