Cajun Bass Boat
I am considering looking at a Cajun Bass boat. What I am looking for is some input on what you think of this boat. The boat is a 1994 Rajun Cajun Bass Boat with a 1994 Yamaha Pro-V 150. I am wondering what peoples +'s and -'s are about this boat.

Kevin,
Regardless of the brand of boat you purchase, a boat is now and will always be "a hole in the water that you pour money into". With any used boat, you are at the mercy and word of the person who owned the boat prior to you. You can have 5 people here tell you that they owned a Cajun and they are the greatest boat ever made, but there are no guarantees. I personally have decided to stick with the top names in the industry for two reasons. #1 they last the longest. #2 they hold their value better than other boats.
The two market leaders today are Skeeter & Ranger. Triton has been selling a lot of boats, but their resale value is so low that you might as well burn the $10,000-$15,000 you would lose after the first year and buy a 1 or 2 year old boat...
I am sure that you are aware of the risks with purchasing "any" used item. The only recommendation I could make is for you to have the engine checked at a qualified Yamaha service center prior to making the purchase. I wish I had some first hand experience with Cajun, but I have never owned or known anyone who owned a Cajun.
Anyone out there have some direct feedback regarding the quality of the Cajun boat line?
Good luck with your research and with what ever choice you decide to make...

Cajun Bass Boat
Kevin, I have a friend who bought a used Cajun last year. He was very fortunate to get a boat that was well cared for. He has had a few boats before this one so I would say he had the background to make an informed purchase. He has had nothing but good things to say about the boat. I have not fished from it but a few of my friends have and they like it as well. Like Brendan said, a used boat is only as good as the previous owner. My boats are always garaged when not in use and get dealer serviced (it helps to have good sponsorship). I am sure you know all the questions to ask before buying, if not, ask the folks here and I am sure you will get a list of questions that will be very in-depth. Good luck with the new boat!

Joe,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the boat. I guess that was what I was getting at... you can never be 100% sure of what you getting. The sad truth is I have heard just as many stories about people purchasing brand new boats and having engines blow, lower unit break, etc.
Choosing a boat manufacturer who stands behind their product is the safest approach. The intent being that "if" something tragic were to happen, you at least know that the company will make good on most major problems that occur.
We have lemon laws for Automobiles and motorcyles, but there are only a few states that that allow the lemon law to apply to boats.
There something to go lobby for...

Kevin, I agree with everyone else, used boat is a used boat. Just make sure that you get it checked out before you buy it. I have fished out a one before but have not owned one myself, it seemed very stable in bad weather.
Also remember this company has been out of business for some time now, so some of the replacement parts may be hard to come by. Yamaha is great I have owned 4 now from a 60 HP to a 225 VMAX great motors..
So take it out on the water for a full day spin, fish out of it. Take the owner with you and pay for his gas, Make sure it will perform like you want or need.
I did this once with a smaller tracker boat and found all kinds of troubles with the engine. Hard to start when warm, water pump not working at it's peak and so on. Check out the trolling motor in the water, live wells make sure the pumps work, check for leaks in the engine area, engine trim make sure both work if it has them, Check the running lights, and all other electric goodies on the boat. There are some things you can't find and that is were a good dealership can help you out. They understand the sounds of the engine and the way they are supposed to act...
I look at this just like buying a used car there is always a chance of problems. But I have also bought 3 brand new Skeeters and have not had any troubles, but have friends like Brenden talked about that have had brand new boats with engine troubles right off the bat, But they all had the factory to go back too also. Warranty makes a big difference if you can buy it.. If you can't just remember that is the difference between spending 5 to 15k used and 25 - 45K brand new... Hope this helped alittle any other questions just ask this group can really give you some sound information..
Good Luck

Thanks Brendan,Kevin the WARRANTY saved my fishing season,Don said it,The one thing I did learn is that most warranty companys will only cover a motor if its under 6yrs old. My motor was a 1996 and I could only get a one year warranty.Like I always say timing is everything LOL.Again good hunting. j Joe d.
