Greeting all pro staff;
I wish to pose a question that is simple, yet I would like to know if the same colors and combinations work well everywhere and through these pages is a great place to find out. Question?? Which three bait colors work best in your area. I will post my selctions a little later. Thanks guys, Johnnie Crain Iowa Pro Staff.

Blue fleck worm and Camo colored worms seems to be a hot ticket here for me. I also use watermelon or green pumkin.

Crankbaits: chart/blue back and shad.

spinnerbaits: the good ole chart/white

jigs: black blue and brown orange. Green pumkin close behind
Thanks,
Conley Staley

Here in PA we are blessed with a variety of different types of water. From small man made lakes, large reserviors and rivers. Color choice is obviously dictated by water color and forage but here is a simple list of my confidence colors for clear to slightly stained water.

Plastics; Watermelon, green pumpkin, dark melon.
Cranks; Shad patterns and chart/blue
Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits; shad patterns, chart/white
Jigs; black/blue, dark melon/brown, green pumpkin ( matching trailers )
Topwater baits; shad patterns
Hard Jerks; shad patterns
Soft Jerks; White and any combination of dark over white

One thing I do a lot is customize my plastics with a die/scent marker. Chartruese being used the most. This also is dictated by water and weather condition, and more importantly on some waters fishing pressure.

Johnnie,
You already know my colors, so I won't go into all of that deal. Instead, I'm going to relay a system by a very successful tournament angler, who orginally came from Arkansas.

He used three basic lures - plastic worm, single spin, and crankbait. His colors were as follows:
Plastic Worms - black, black grape and red
Single Spin - white, and chartreuse
Crankbait - white, and fire tiger

Everything was very simple, and he didn't carry much tackle. As I said, his system was very successful, no matter where he fished in the country.

By the way, Happy 35th Anniversary to you and Mary.

It's neat to see that the same colors are a mainstay in every box.
My choices are:

Jigs: Black/Blue & Brown/Pumpkin
Tubes: Black/Blue, Baby Bass & Smoke
Cranks: Chart/Blue & Smoke or Shad Pattern
Spinners: White/Chart & Silver Scale
Plastics: Blue Fleck, Smoke, Green Pumpkin
and Red Shad.
Although the water and area will dictate my choices more indepth, these colors are what I throw mostly on my home waters.

Thanks guys, I was certain that many of my same choices would appear in your selections, but did see some that surprized me. A lot of you mentioned purple and purple combinations, also orange. My selections would include: Jigs= black/blue-brown/orange. Worms- purple-black grape-& copper (have had excellant results with copper, I call them copperheads.) Spinnerbaits: Chartreuse/white skirt, gold blades. Pearl skirt, silver blades. Black/yellow skirt, copper-brass blades. *Black skirt, Orange single blade.
* I have won several tournaments or been saved from total embarrassment by this combination of black-orange, first time I tried it, there were some reeds near the bank I was fishing and I saw a lot of red-wing black birds hovering over the water, I wanted to imitate them, and the fish responded. Won Muscatine Bassmaster of the Year with this combination, nothing else.
Crankbaits- bone, fire tiger (No.1), perch and spook (off-white-gray lines) and pure gray.
In-line spinners, white bucktail-silver blade-red reflector, gold blade. Thanks again guys, your information is priceless. Johnnie Crain Iowa Pro Staff.
