Scent, does it make sense?

Post by MMT »

I fully agree with the "if it works for you theory". It is a confidence thing. It has always worked for me, so I keep throwing it. Soon I'll have my photo up along with all of yours. I'm joining the Pro Staff as a writer.

Scent, does it make sense?

Post by JoeM »

Years ago, Uncle Homer wrote an article about L-Serine in human beings. His idea was to avoid letting bass detect the stuff because it would warn them. He advised using some form of scent product.

My Brother was a Die Maker and he always said that he was the only guy in his shop who stained tool steel with his fingerprints. I thought about that and started using Fish Formula. Now I use Kick'n Bass. It stays in the boat even when everything else is locked up in the shed.

By the way, MMT that was another really good question. Many thanks.

Most of you know I'm on the Kodiak Pro Staff, so saying scents work, may not convince some. However, the reason I was placed on the staff is because of my success with scents.

I've been on several scent company pro staffs, including the orginal Fish Formula group.

Shortly after signing with Kodiak I decided to see how many of my state award and World Record fish were caught while using scents. The majority were, with either a pre-scented lure, one with added scent, or a combination of both.

To further enhance belief in scents go ice fishing. This is a time when they really seem to pack weight. I've had partners ask to use my container of scent when they've only been fishing a couple of feet away, with no results - then they catch fish. This has been espcially true when using something like a Crappie Nibble, which milks into the water.

Also, crappie fishing with a tube injected with Kodiak Minnow Paste, will far out fishing one that is empty, which I proved to myself again a couple of weeks ago.

I definitely agree with eveyone who thinks it helps the most to enhance the holding time when a fish graps on. However, there are those times, when a visual milking, or "oil slick" can entice a strike through sight, and an "odor zone" made after more than one cast to an area (flipping in open water, or fishing the same hole in ice season).

Dan- Sounds logical to this old guy. A small version of a chum slick perhaps? It works for me.

By the way, I owe you an e-mail. Watch for it. Another good post. Much obliged. Joe
