Anchovies
Hello, fished with anchovies for the first time, and lost five fish!!!! I think I was hookin the bait wrong, I was hooking through the back, but I read today that you hook them through the nose and bottom jaw. Sound good or is there another way. Going back to the lake tommorow, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. For bait that has a more narrow body (and does not have a bill nose), it is recommended that you hook through the bottom jaw and out a nostral. What type of hook are you using? How big are the anchovies?

What type of fish are you trying for? When I use anchovies, I usually fish for striper. I use a treble hook, run through the entire body, with the treble hook, pressed up by the gills. The stripers usually hit the gills of a dead or dying fish. The hook up rate is better, when you use bigger hooks, for bigger anchovies. I hope this helps out. Bassman

thanks a lot all. went yesterday and ended up getting a 7 lbs catfish, 4 lbs catfish, and about a 4 lbs striper in only 4 hours. BTW I use either size 1 or 2 snell hook through the bottom jaw, and up through the nose. hook up seems alot better now. thanks for suggestions and replying back, and the fish i am mostly going for is striper, but cats will work lol.

hey guys, have another question about chovies. I was wondering if it would be effective to try and toss a chovie hooked up with a bobber, or if the bottom will produce more hits

We only use Anchovies in Iowa for pizza topping, never heard of using them for bass? Anyway good luck with the fishing, maybe bass like pizza toppings, I've never tried it. LOL Johnnie
