MOTOR GUIDE IS KILLING ME!!!

I owned a Motor Guide Great White years ago.
The solid state circuit blew so I sent it to an authorized repair shop. The repair cost half the price of the motor and I told them to keep it. Minn Kota wouldn't sell me the parts, so I was stuck with the big repair rip-off.
Minn Kota service has always been great, though pound for pound thrust, the motor is not quite as powerful as my original Merc Thruster. It's speeds are too close from settings 1-4 and 5 is too far from 4 in power. The weedless prop is fair but only at high speed.
The 40 lb. thrust will only take on a strong wind with setting 5; less won't hold position. The steady-on switch is nice for slowly working a shoreline at low speed.
Over all I'm satisfied, but it has a lot to do with good service.

Fellas,
Thanks for all the honest feedback. It helps to have a wide range of opinions when you're about to make a life altering decision, such as this...
As a tournament fisherman, switching over to a different company can be nerve wracking. Although it can solve your problems, it can also invite new ones.
Thanks again,
BC

Don- Welcome aboard. This Motor Guide/ Minn Kota thing has been going on for a long time. Decisions are always helped by info from many different people who in this case fish in the real world.
To all of you who posted, thank you! Without this level of expertise, this would just be another website.
PS- Johnnie, I'm still taking down notes. I'm going to need a new room soon.
Bass Wishes and Much obliged. Joe
PS- By the way, if I miss one of you by name, it's just an oversight. I'll get you next time.

Gentlemen, it's not the size or the make of your equipment that you use (haha) but how well you are at making the equipment you have work to your advantage during a tournament or just spending a day out on the lake. The legendary Tom Mann once told me when I started fishing, It's not what you use but how well you use what you have to catch fish. I took with me that information and started honing my skills and a year later won my first tournament with Zebco 33's and a 40 hp 15 1/2 foot cimmeron bass boat won $2000 against 118 other bass teams.
So take care of the equipment you have whether it's minn kota, Motor Guide, Mercury, ect. Nothing out there on the market is invincible everything can break and some times it breaks at the wrongtime. But what you have be proud of because a lot of fisherman have nothing.

Fishhead, some of it breaks more readily than other equipment. I was a huge motorguide fan but have had my problems with their stuff as well. I know that you are only as good as your equipment when it is in peak performing condition but if it is unreliable to begin with, well, I guess you are seriously limited then.
