My absolute favorite buzzer mod is to remove the metal blade and stick a square point nail in the holes. This squares them out and gives the bait a new interesting sound and it works very well. Night time is the right time.

When you're buzzin' you'll notice they tend to walk to one side on the retrieve. Let it walk into things like branches or dock pilings. Bass will cream it when it comes off the thing it hit.

Frank is right if you bend the top wire of you buzz bait just a little one way or the other you can make the bait run right or left. This works great on boat docks. You can run the bait up under the dock were most have not seen a buzz bait.

I to flatten out the rivet and file it to get that squeek that drives them mad.

I will have to remember the square nail trick. Kevin Vandams book talks about drilling the holes in the blade too but I have not tried it. Great advise guys.

Good stuff guys. Enjoying these posts and learning. I've got to tell you, the buzz bait is my least favorite bait. I simply don't like them, but will admit I'll use them when conditions dictate. Being a crankbait specialist, I found a way to incorporate the buzz bait and the crankbait. I take a short piece of mono leader, 20# tie it to the hook of the buzzer, add a snap to the free end and tie a shallow diver crankbait to the snap back about six inches. Great combination, the buzzer fights to stay on top, the shallow diver fights to dive and the bass fight over both baits. Somebody please try this and let me know. It could just be a local thing, I don't know, but I do know it works.
