I have a two foot long chart/blue back top water bait that was given to me as a gag gift that I keep in the boat in one of my storage compartments. First time I took it with me we got a check so when they ask me what I was using as a bait I pulled out this two foot topwater bait tied to a spinning rod and told them that I finest them in the boat. Every time I remember to take it with me we get a check. Or at least it seems like it. It helps me forget the stress of getting frustrated. When things are not going right I pull it out and laugh.
That and my Oakley sunglasses are my good luck charms.

I dont have a particular lucky charm that I use, it changes from time to time. For example, if I draw a check at one tourney I will carry something over to the next tourney like a sweatshirt I was wearing. I'll wear the sweatshirt until it becomes unlucky. Right now I have a peice of red and white string tied around my wrist, it came from my girlfrineds sister, did well the last tourney and I'm taking all measures to ensure it stays tied through my super tourney this weekend. Thats my 2 censt. Awsome topic guys.

Speaking of lucky items... how many of you guys have a lucky lure? I don't mean one type or brand of lure that always produces fish, I am referring to 1 single lure that you own that when ever you take it out and use it, it produces fish.

For example, I once bought 4 crankbaits that were all the same make, model, size, shape and color. The only adjustments that I made to these baits was replacing the treble hooks with better ones. I randomly picked on out of the group, tied it on and started working an area that had been holding fish. This particular crankbait was producing fish from the first cast. I fish with it in other areas of the lake that day and also caught fish. By the end of the day, the bait was looking pretty banged-up. So the next morning, I tied on one of the remaining three new baits. Working the same area as I did the day before, I could not draw a strike. The whole time I kept wondering what the problem could be. After about 10 minutes with no strikes, I decided to just give the banged up lure a chance. I put it on and landed a solid 3 1/2 lb bass on the second cast. I had a limit in the boat within the next 8 casts following that fish. I'm the type of person who always wants to know "WHY"? So of course I needed to try and figure out the difference. I tied one of the other baits onto an identical rod, reel and line combo and began alternating cast with the two lures. The banged up one produced fish and the other did not. I tried all three and only one of the three produce a fish... and it was a dink!

So is this a lucky bait or just one that came out of the mold with something that made it a little different from the others and it just happened to be what the fish were after?

I am interested to hear everyone's opinion on this one.

As you kmow all baits aren't created equal. Perhaps your lucky bait just came out running absolutely true, or had just a little bit more weight to the body or the lp configuration was perfect.
I once decided to try a new style wooden crankbait, I had to choose between a Bomber Timber Rattler or a Poe's 300 crankabi. I choose the Poe's simply because the package was shaped like a bass. The first day I caught 38 bass on it with an 8# kicker. The next day 47 bass with an 8# 2 oz. kicker. I ened up having both fish mounted face to face. The bait continued to catch hundreds of quality bass and it too became all banged up. For fear of losing such a precious bait I now have it suspended between my two trophies on the wall. I know it would still produce, but afraid of losing it. I touch i occassionally for luck. I have several the same size and color that catch fish, but nothing like the first one.
Brendan, I do believe a roughed up lure outfishes the new ones, something about taking the shine off seems to help. I now rough up most of my baits with sandpaper, seems to help. Johnnie

Johnnie, you are right about Virgil. His lucky charm is his faith in God. As for the coin, that series of five flips, and his prayers is what won Virgil the World Championship, which sent him on in about 3 years to hosting the Championship Fishing Show. It is a longer story, but just didn't go into on this post. We have it in the documentary, and if anyone wants to hear the complete details of the story I'll post it, or email it privately.
