Braided line is a great line if you have the right tackle to handle it. It is a very strong line. If you do not use a backing, it will sometimes come loose on your spool and spin. All you can do then is unspool it and retie. Fireline is a very strong line that is very dependant. I have landed alot of big bass on fireline. The only problem that it poses is it seems like the fish dont bite as much b/c the fish can see it. Unless you are fishing a faster bait. I used 14lb. fireline and it worked great for me. I have just recently changed to Stren Magnaflex and it seems to be even better than fireline in some cases. the fish cant see it and it is very dependable. I have landed more big bass on Magnaflex than on fireline b/c the fish cant see it. Whatever line you chose, make sure you have confidence in it. No confidence means more mistakes. Do not use a line you dont trust!

In salt water I have started using a Florocarbon leader. It does not show up in the water. The firewire is very visible in clear water.
