Stick Marsh / Farm 13

Post by Fish On »

Date Fished: 3/29/03

Water Temperature: 77

Water Clarity: 1 foot

I chose 1 spot in the middle of the Stick Marsh where I know there are fish and 1 spot near an irrigation ditch in Farm 13, I would fish each spot in 1 1/2 hour increments for 9 hours. My reason was to cool off on the 6 minute runs back and forth as the wind was non existant.

Running around the lake is not the way to catch fish but going from spot to spot cools you off and gives the back an occasional rest but if you don't have a plan including catching fish at the end of your run your just pleasure cruising.

My Stick Marsh spot is about 200 sq. feet and near center of the marsh, about 7.5' deep, sparse grass, and lots of stumps. The area has little bait but still holds scattered fish. Throughout the day this area produced about 15 bass mostly on a "chartreuse" SPRO Prime crankbait 25 reeled medium speed about 3 feet down, the fish were suspended atop stumps and fishing deeper resulted in less bites and more hang-ups.

My Farm 13 spot is about a 100 sq. foot area along an irrigation ditch where the fish have been exploding on massive amounts of threadfin shad and anything thrown near the surface activity gets eaten, a 3/8 oz. SPRO hair jig did the work there for 38 fish.

53 fish was the total for the day with no big fish but lots of fun, the farm was definately more productive than the sticks for me.
