I currently have a 22 pitch lazer 2 stain-less that I am going to have reworked because I found something hard to hit. I do not have a back-up prop and I'm now going to buy one. Some people recommend only stainless but I have yet to hear a valid reason to use only SS. Props are available in aluminum, and Fiber designs. The boat I run is 17 foot nitro w/a 115 merc. Would you think that I would be OK with an aluminum?

No problem going with aluminum or other material, but don't expect the same performance you get from your SS prop. Once you get your #1 prop back, your aluminum or ? will serve as a good spare.

I agree that the Aluminum prop would make a good back-up prop but, the durability of the prop won't even compare.
This summer I was out with my buddy in his boat and he had a brand new aluminum prop on it and we were just barely creeping through some trees and he hit one and it took a chunk about the size of a quater out of the blade.
But, as mentioned earlier an aluminum prop will make a good back-up.

I suggest you purchase a prop you can afford, if money is no object, I highly suggest the SS. The SS will perform much better and is so much tougher, aluminum props will not only break, but in time may also get stress cracks and you may lose an entire blade. Alum. also may get ugly if you leave your boat in the water and more importantly, the SS prop is a lot less likely to lose the very important pitch. When the blades on a SS prop get a little out of line, I board and hammer may be all you need to correct the problem, not so with alum. But again, stay within your budget.
