Nearly every pool of the big river is hot right now for bass, both large and small mouth. Bass are holding in backwater areas near deeper water 4 to 5 feet. Shallow crankbaits are tearing them up. Fish the little lips close to and over fallen trees, stumps and brush. Keep in mind that where there's stumps, there's also root systems that most likely hold fish. Spinnerbait, white/chartreuse with gold blades are also very effective fished in weeds or stickups.
In the river proper, try deep diving crankbaits along, below and above wing dams. Shad or crawfish patterns are hot. Also try any rock shorelines with two to five feet of water-crankbaits or jig and pig. j&p colors, brown on brown, chunk can be pork or plastic. As the weather and water get hotter so does the fishing. Current areas can be deadly at times, start in the backwaters early then move to the river bend areas, wing dams and day markers. If you haven't tried the Mighty Mississippi for bass, you're missing a good time, just be careful where you run full bore! Johnnie
