Mississippi river

Post by johnnie crain outdoors »

Bass fishing in the big river has improved as the weather warms. The fish are in the current and predictable. At present the best pattern is to find islands with some deeper water and logs that the branches extend into the deeper water. I have been taking some nice fish by fishing these areas with a Magnum Bassin Eel and Gambler paddle tail worms in purple-red flake and blue sapphire colors. I match this with a red Tru-Turn Copperhead 3/0 hook and a 3/8th ounce Tungston slip sinker. I simply pitch the bank in close to the logs and gently work it over any limbs, then feel for any brush piles at the end of the log. The fish are predomently largemouth, but a few smallmouth show up on occassion. Good luck to all. Johnnie
