Castaic CA, Upper and Lagoon: 8/23

Post by George Cawthorn »

Took half a day vacation from work yesterday and went fishing with my son Mikie at Castaic.

Got up to the lake at about 5:00 PM was figuring to fish it till dark but found out they would close the upper lake area at 7:30.

We started out at the West Ramp area but it was kinda windy and somewhat crowded. More guys fishing there than I had expected.

Did happen to notice that the trail going out to the point we were fishing on had new Mountain Lion and Rattlesnake warning signs posted.

It is kinda rugged out there on the rim of the Angeles National forest.

Was unable to get anything going there and since closing time was gonna be 7:30 PM, Mikie and I decided to head on down below the dam to Castaic Lagoon where we could fish it as long as we wanted to from the east side.

We got down there around 6:00 PM and fished it till 8:30. When we arrived air temp was 87 water temp was 79.

We got a couple of bites on the dropshots with Zoom Tiny Fluke watermellon, landed two small LMB. Otherwise fishing was slow.

This is a shot of the one that Mikie got, the better of the two.

Almost a replay of my last visit at the Lagoon.

Tried the Fat Ika, some Carolina rigged worms and a Zoom trick worm bubblegum. No dice on those today.

When it got dark we had to split but it did look like it might be a good night for fishing. There was a 3/4 full moon on the rise at about 45 degrees up.

Well anyway that was it for me and Mikie today. Fishing was slow but at least we caught two. Both released of course.

Good fishing to you guys, later................... geobass
