Sumo Frogs

One of my most favorite ways to catch bass is in slop. I started using popping scum frogs a year ago and they produced well. This spring I thought I would drop some extra cash and try a Sumo Frog. Well let me tell you not only are my hook-up ratio's improved, the size of fish the Sumo Frog attracts are larger. You can cast them a mile,even on very heavy line. Try the Sumo Frog by Gary Yamamoto and I think you will be very happy with the results.

Hi Butch- Is Gary building those lures? I saw them on the Net one night. A guy sent me a link and the Sumo Frog was the featured bait.
When I get finished here tonight, I will go to www.google.com and search for all I can get on SF's.

Sounds like they've convinced you that they are great baits. Are they expensive? I have a Castaic Sunfish and a Lucky Craft Pointer and I have nightmares about losing both of them.
(What is silly is that for years I fished with the original Big O's- the balsa ones.
They are a high ticket item today, but I only paid I think about $4 each. I'll bet I can trade for a lot of Lucent Stock for those Big-O's that never saw water. Probably a wheelbarrow full of Lucent. Why I might want to do that, I'll never know.)

Anyhow, let us in on what makes this such a good bait. Much obliged. JoeMo

Joe Mo: Gary does not produce these they are made in Japan and imported by a company named BOZE. They are not cheap price range is between 5.99 to 7.99 depending on where you shop. The frog features an owner dual hook and the body has a weight attached to it. The body has detailing on the sides and part of the bottom or in other words "where the fish can see it". The lure also features large eyes for the bass to zero in on. The body is sealed very well so it picks up very little water. This makes the frog stay on the surface and not sink. My take on the sumo is: Better hook-ups, floats better, casts far, goes through vegetation with ease, and most importantly bass love them.

Hey Jo,
I've got a collection of Burke flex lures, that I will trade for your lucent!!!!!! (and I'm not kidding) I figure it will be a cold winter and two wheel barrows of lucent will be warmer than one!!!

Frank- At this point I have decided to ride Lucent out. Actually the Burke lure I liked the best was the worm made up of a series of what looked like plastic ***** ( well, then they must be spheres. lol) and a tail that looked much like a webbed foot. Do you recall them? You could shorten them by cutting off section by section.

By the way, have you seen this Sumo Frog?
Something like the SnagProof Tournament Frog-
rubber tail legs, but with an Owner double hook and colors that are intensive to say the least.

Butch- I went to the Google Search Engine and had a good light show of all the Sumo Colors-
WOW! There I found that it came from Japan.

Butch- By the way, what size line are you using with the $UMO frog$ ? ( LOL ) Really, what lb. test are you fishing them with?
I'm sure the guys would all be glad to know.
Have you thought of steel leaders in pickerel waters?

Now I'm getting itchy just thinking of tossing one of those Sumo's into places my friend Pete's dog wouldn't go. (And he's a Lab) lol

The line that I'm currently using with the Sumo frog is Stren High Impact. The line test is 20 pound, but the actual line rating is 39 pounds per Stren. I'm using a 7 foot heavy action bait cast rod equipped with an older Quantum Iron reel. I feel the Iron reel is the top dog for a slop fishing rig. I think you would have to beat it with a sledge hammer to knock it out, can't say the same about other brands. I,ve had too many reels break in heavy line heavy cover situations.

lbs.? With that you could pull a bassboat around!
