i can't get any of my lures to work in murky
water. what lures are best in murky water and why?

How are you pyderwyd? I had a tourney on the Potomac in June, and the water was the color of coffee with extra cream. Visibility was 0 inches. My partner and I used bright colored spinnerbaits with colorado blades. try using a firetiger or chartruese and orange spinnerbait, with a flashy blade. In this situation you want to make the bass react. A little scent wouldnt hurt. Hope this helps a bit, and good luck.

Pyderwyd: Dirty water is really easier to catch in because fish will stay in the shallows. In Shallow water I always look for laydowns such as stumps, fallen trees ect...
The best bait has always been a spinnerbait (black) or a buzz bait (black). A jig pitched at targets is also a good bet when the bass are a little slow.

Firetiger is just a color. It is green, orange, charturese, and sometimes black. Very productive. Good luck and let us know if you need anything else.

Don't forget about a big fat 10" worm worked through the brush and shallow cover. One thing about the muddy water it positions the fish close to shallow cover. Pitch a black/chart. jig with rattles as close to the cover as you can and hop it. Make multiple casts. This is important because the fish has to react to the vibrations and sound of the bait to find it. I also work my baits for a longer period of time in the strike zone with a hop and shake, hop and shake retrieve. Same thing with the worm. Blue fleck power worms are my favorite. With them you get the added attraction of sent.
