Gulp

Post by dansfishntales »

How many of you have tried the new Gulp series being put out by Pure Fishing?

Brian and Karen sent me some of these worms, and the fish went crazy for them. I tested them by not using them. First, I put one of the 4-inch Turtle Back worms on my mothers line (she is 82, and uses lures like the rest of us). The results - she was hitting bass I was missing. Then on another day, I put one of this worms on my fathers line (he is 88 years old, with Alzheimer's). The results - he started catching some bass. I then went to the 7" Minnow Worm, and even with two-thirds of the tail eatten off, the fish still kept hitting the thing. In fact, I hooked one of the largest fish I've hung into since I had the all-tackle freshwater drum. It broke the knot on 30 pound test braided Stealth line.

There is no doubt these things don't smell good.

Also, don't leave them out of the water. They will dry up just like pork, but dip them back in the water, and things will soften up.

The Gander Mountain store in Davenport, Iowa told me they can't keep them on the shelf.

Would like to know if there are any other experiences with these out there.

Best of fishing,
Dan

Dennis,
My web site is www.dansfishntales.com. This is also mentioned in my Bassin' USA Pro Staff Profile.

Another address, www.dansfishntales.net, goes to a links page, which actually goes back to the orginal. It is a complete circle, with links to the Bassin' USA site as well.

Hope all of that didn't make everyone dizzy.

I'm sure the Gulp is legal on the tournament circuits. At least I haven't heard anything to dispute this. I can ask Brian Thomas or Karen Anfinson at Pure Fishing. They will definitely have the answer.

I spoke to the man who created the formula for the Gulp series. He said as far as he knows this is allowed in all tournaments. There pro staff is currently using them.

Thanks to Karen Anfinson of Pure Fishing for putting me in touch with this gentleman. I had a very interesting and informative coversation.

Dan, I use them too, and they do dry out. They are as legal as pork in tournaments. Trayven (Grandson) (8) uses them, got a 17 inch bass. I only use them when I'm strictly wormin' because they will dry out when left undipped for a half hour or so. When I get to crankin' I forget to throw it. They do work tho. Good post. Johnnie

Gulp

Two weeks ago I was fishing a local pond and caught many bass with the Nightcralwer Gulp! worms. The worm was torn up beyond repair, so I simply pitched it in the pond without thinking twice.
I went back yesterday, and caught a bass. While winding it in there was another bass with it about 6lbs. This fish was nipping at my smaller one. As I was about to release it, I noticed something hanging out of its "butt-hole". This appeared to be the end of my Gulp! worm from two weeks ago! As I gently pulled on it more of the worm came out, and I eventually pulled the whole thing out. The fish probably would've died, but forunately was realeased with no-harm done.
This was mindboggling I had simply thrown the worm in the pond about 2 weeks earlier, and this fish had digested it. Since part of the worm was hanging out the BIGGER fish was after its share of the worm too.
All in all that day I caught several 3 pounders, a 6 pounder, and my father caught the biggest fish of his life 11 lbs! This is only 3 lbs. shy of the TN state record. The fish was released to fight another day. Maybe next year, if she is pregnant it will be a record.
After my experience this day, I am a true believer in the Gulp! series softbaits and would reccomend them to anyone!

What kind of Gulp! do you use? What type of worm do you use? I know of the minnows but is there a type of worm that is like a u-tail worm made by Gulp!? I thought that I had seen the ones that were called turtlebacks. Thanks!
