I was wondering what the best rod for my new 5.2:1 ratio reel. I will be using it for soft plastic, sometimes carolina rigging, and occasionally some jerkbaits. I'm asking what length, action, and possibly some brands that you guys would recommend.

Curado24, For soft plastic's and Flukes, floating worms ect. I would think about an 6.6 ft Med rod. These give you the flex you are looking for. Carolina rigging I would look at the same rod but maybe a Med Heavy rod, more backbone to chuck thoses bigger c weights..
As far as what brand.. Well Depends on your budget.. Bass Pro Shops has a very nice Bonic blade rod that run around $50 - 75 dollars. Good rod for the money, or if you want to spend more take a look at the GLoomis GLX and IMX series rods, worth the money for weight and feel... There are alot out there you may even want to look at custom made rods, I know of a company called Jim Grandt rods out of Chicago ILL.. they run around 90.00 to 300.00... I can get the www address if you are interested. So there is alot, I've tried them all matter of what you like for the money..
Good Luck

the 6'6 med rod sounds like a good idea for the soft plastics. I've already got a 7' med heavy rod and I was wondering if I could use that for carolina rigging?

You are opening a can of worms with this one, when you stated what the best rod is. I use a 7" St.Croix Legend Elite and it works awesome with my plastics. Good luck with your search
