Ultralights

I had a question about ultralight rods and reels. Are they strong enough to bring in a bass? I was looking at them at the store and I didnt think they would be.
It depends what you mean by ultralight. There are some junky noodle style rods with no backbone out there and I would not recommend them for bass fishing. You could likely land a bass on anything.
I've made a tournament living fishing lighter lines and rods than most guys and it has paid off nicely. I fished in a club for the past 4 years and I've won just about every award available including 4 AOY awards. I use 6lb line almost exclusively and I consider what I'm doig to be light tackle or ultralight tackle fishing.
I'm not sure you will find a good UL rod in Walmart but I can recommend several from catalog houses like BPS. Take a li=ook at their Bionic Blade series. They have a couple of 5 and 5-6 light models. Their 6ft Bionic Blade light rod is an excellent rod that you can get for about 49.99 on sale.
