FRESHWATER

Fishing has been pretty good at Lake Wallenpaupack…lots of northern pike up to 6 pounds and pickerel up to 5 pounds were caught with live shiners…anglers also catching plenty of smallmouth by drifting live shiners or using deep-diving crayfish pattern crankbaits.

Pickerel at Peck's Pond are taking live shiners, spinners, and red/black rubber worms…bass are taking live shiners and rubbers worms also, but bite is sporadic…some bass hitting scum frogs around the weeds…panfish taking mealies around lily pads and submerged stumps…pickerel and bass taking live shiners at Shohola Lake.

Lehigh River trout activity has definitely picked up in recent days…rainbow and brown trout up to 15 inches are being caught from the Jim Thorpe area, primarily on worms and small spoons…plenty of trout remaining in area trout streams also… panfishing still good, especially for crappies at Mauch Chunk Lake… bass action also good at Mauch Chunk…customers report excellent action on live minnows and nightcrawlers, with numerous fish over 16 inches caught in recent days…Beltzville Lake smallmouths are biting, and customers say fish up to 4 pounds are being caught.

Lehigh River is flowing a bit high since recent rains, but anglers are catching decent numbers of trout below Cementon Falls… smallmouth action is slowing down in the river due to colder water… area trout streams have been producing more fish since getting fresh water from rains; reports are good from the Little Lehigh, Bushkill, Saucon and Monocacy creeks…customers are catching small trout at Leaser Lake and Lake Minsi…Mauch Chunk bass bite has slowed … salmon fishing is picking up on the Salmon River in New York state, where brown trout and steelhead are moving upstream.

Delaware River rose more than four feet after recent rains and river is currently running around six feet at the Belvidere gauge…water has a slight stain, and temperatures are in the 52-53-degree range…when water was up, smallmouth bass were taking tubes and spinnerbaits… bigger fish have started to eat, and crankbaits and tubes should work well as water recedes…fish are still hanging around current breaks around shorelines and rocky flats…concrete cover also producing fish…Susquehanna River only came up a foot after recent rains, but water is at a good level for jet boats…grubs and tubes thrown around rocky drop-offs enticing plenty of nice fish up to 31/2 pounds.

Little Lehigh Creek is 2.29 feet at Allentown and flowing at 62 cubic feet per second…water is clear, and morning temperature is 48 degrees…fish midges and terrestrial patterns…baetis are hatching around lunchtime, and flying ants are showing up around dinnertime… recommended patterns: craneflies, Al's rats, honeybugs, Griffith's gnats, San Juan worms, parachute Adams, pheasant tails, Henryville specials, beetles, BWOs, sucker spawn and honeybug inchworms.

Lehigh River is high and flowing very fast in the Allentown area…water is difficult to fish…Lil-Le-Hi Trout Nursery called shop Wednesday and announced a special trout stocking this Saturday throughout the Lehigh Parkway…lots of small, native trout being caught in Trout Creek on small rubber jigs…Lake Minsi bass and pickerel are active…jerkbaits working there.

David Crank of Hellertown caught a 29-inch, 9-pound catfish Oct. 28 at Lake Nockamixon on a chicken liver… Crank also caught several other nice catfish during the same outing, also on livers…anglers continue to get plenty of nice trout on Saucon Creek … trout action also good on the Little Lehigh … George Klotz Jr. of Hellertown caught a 19-inch rainbow there last week on a light brown comparadun.
