Bass were biting in the dynamite holes and in the cuts in the rim canal between Clewiston and South Bay. Anglers venturing onto the main lake were catching bass around the mouth of Uncle Joe's, along Observation Shoal and in the Monkey Box. Live shiners have been productive, as have Carolina-rigged soft plastics, stick worms and shallow-running crankbaits. Speckled perch were biting live minnows in the rim canal, the Kissimmee River and the Harney Pond Canal. The lake level was 10.28 feet.

Bass fishing has been best in the Lake Ida chain of lakes. Anglers cast-netting live shad were catching plenty of fish. The most productive lure has been a Gambler Ace stick worm. Rob Flanahan and Charlie Davis of Chicago used Aces to catch 24 bass up to 5 pounds Thursday morning in Ida and the canals north of Ida. Earlier in the week Chris Sandler and Greg Roberts of Minnesota caught 21 bass up to 4.5 pounds using Aces in Ida and north of Ida. Al Goldman and Pat Meyers of New York used Aces and Giggy Head worms to catch 31 bass up to 5 pounds in Ida and the canals south of Ida. Bass fishing was slow in the canals around Everglades Holiday Park.

Backcountry guides out of Bud N' Mary's Marina in Islamorada reported catching redfish, snook and a few sea trout in front of Flamingo. All three species also were biting in Whitewater Bay. Keep in mind that sea trout season is closed until Jan. 1 and snook season closes Saturday.

Capt. Bouncer Smith of Bouncer's Dusky 33, who fishes out of Miami Beach, said daytime swordfish anglers using electric reels have caught a number of swordfish over 400 pounds this week. The few anglers who weren't targeting swordfish caught sailfish along edges off Key Biscayne. Smith's anglers caught a 50-pound cobia Tuesday on a kite bait in 200 feet and a dozen dolphin in 300 feet along a color change. Spanish mackerel were biting best on windy days. Fishing for snapper and grouper has been fair off Broward County. Ray's Offshore Tackle reported dolphin, wahoo, kingfish and a few sailfish were biting between Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, and one boat that hook-and-lined for swordfish at night landed three swordies.

The general consensus is that a cold front is needed to get the fish biting. Despite good fishing conditions, fishing has been slow at Juno Beach Pier aside from a few blue runners and a 72-inch sailfish that was caught from the pier Wednesday morning. Deerfield Beach Pier had kingfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Anglin's Pier had a few mackerel, jacks and blue runners. Dania Beach Pier had some mackerel, snapper and sharks.

Bud N' Mary's Marina in Islamorada reported the Miss Islamorada party boat had a good catch of yellowtail snapper Thursday and also released a sailfish. A few kingfish were biting on the reef. Instead of fishing for bonefish, most backcountry guides were running to Flamingo.
