It all depends on how my money you want to stick into to combo? Mine is a 7'St.Croix Legend Elite rod and a Shimano Calais CL200 reel. The total combo is about $650.00 and let me tell you it is worth every penny. Some people use different rods and reels for different types of lures they use but with my combo I use it all with great success. Every thing from jigs to top water this combo will handle it all Good luck with your search

I use either Shimano Scorpions or Chronarch's teamed with Bass Pro Extreme or Johnny Morris Baitcasting rods or Shimano Stradics with Extreme or Bionic Blade rods.

Kingfish,
It may not be wise to get caught up in the gotta spend the big bucks trap too early. It's often best when starting out to purchase four less costly rods and reels than one that costs $650.00. These outfits are for professional anglers who really know their stuff. Actually, I would be ashamed to own a rod and reel that cost that much. A fifty cent angler with a $1000.00 combo. Don't get me wrong, If I could afford it I'd have a gold plated, Signature, sterling silver ball bearing reel, but it just isn't going to happen for me, so I have to compromise, eat or have a high dollar combo. The most important thing is comfort, marrying a rod and reel that is easy for you to use, each angler has different size hands, is a different height and each angler should strive to acquire a rod and reel combo they can handle all day, every day. I suggest not paying more than $150.00 per combo, unless you are very good, you'll never know the difference. Good luck with your purchase. If you can afford it go with some of the other guys suggestions, these guys know what they're doing, and remember, do not ever buy an el cheapo, these are heartbreakers. Aagin, Good luck. Pick wisely. Johnnie Crain
