Castaic Lagoon, CA: 04.08.08 Things are Warming Up
Posted: Fri Apr 11, 2008 4:55 am
Got to squeeze in a little bassfishing time on Tuesday afternoon.
Got up to the Lagoon at around 3:00 PM. Contitions were fairly calm, just a nice 5 mph breeze coming over my sholder from the SSE. Air temp was 72, water temp was (Halelulia) 64, barometer had been holding steady for the last few days around 30.10.
Started off fishing a large Ish Tube... this monster is 7.5 inches long and casts like a balistic missile. Didn’t bet bit on the Ish Tube but this lure has been billed as a real nest buster and I’ve heard that Ish Monroe has been taking down some monster bass with them.
You can check out the Ish Tubes at picassooutdoors.com
Switched off from that after about half an hour, got into the Ika for a while and then went down to a lightly rigged dropshot (Kamikaze Style, which is anything less than six pound line, it is not unsual to hear of guys going down to 3 and 2 lb. setups with the water gin clear like it is).
On my first cast with the Kamikaze rig I got nibbled on but not bit. Returned a second cast to the same area figuring my doorbell had been wrung but the door hadn’t been opened. On the second pass got hammered by this solid two pounds and change LMB.
Got him in about ten feet of water at around 4:00 PM.
Good fighter for it’s size too. Well fed frisky little devil. Pulled a good amount of drag off and made several pretty strong runs before giving up.
Fish was released after photo. This is my third time in a row geting bit at the Lagoon when I went out, followingf six zeroes before that so I suppose you could say the Lagoon is begining to come alive.
Hung around until sunset which was exactly at 7:00 PM. Most of the south end of the Lagoon to myself, most of the time. More guys showed up around sundown as usual.
Finished off the afternoon with only one decent catch and a couple of nibbles that I missed but heck I was just happy to be catching anything again after all those zeroes.
Good fishing to you guys, later................ geobass
Please parctice Catch and Release on all largemouth bass. Thanks.
