Castaic Lagoon, California: Sat 8/16

Well it's been a while since I last posted. Things have been kinda slow at the Lagoon this summer. My usual results have been a few small ones on light dropshots and that's pretty much what went down yesterday.
I got up to the Lagoon around 6:30 AM (late for me) and the weather was pretty good. The barometer had been down slightly and I was figuring that that might offset the fact that the moon was almost perfect full the night before.
Water temp was 70. Slight breeze from the SW and the air temp was 74. The temperature did rise pretty quickly though and got up to about 85 when I left at 1:00 PM.
If there is a drought going on in SoCal you wouldn't know it by looking at the Lagoon. Water level is still high, water running over the spillway at the south end and also more water being let in from the Upper Castaic into the Lagoon.
I did manage to catch a couple of small ones on light dropshots. The first one was the best one that was 2 lbs.
A few days earlier when I was there someone crashed a model airplane into the Lagoon right in front of two guys that were fishing off the riprap in the southeast corner of the Lagoon.
The plane was electric battery powered, thus silent. When it hit the water in front of these guys that were about 100 yards from me I thought they had had a monster strike.
Luckily it missed them. This plane was over four feet wingspan. There is a model airplane base at the top of the bluffs overlooking the south end of the Lagoon. Occasionally one of them gets out of control and lands in the Lagoon.
If you happened to get hit by one of these things it wouldn't be pretty.
Check out these pics of the crash scene.
And this zoom in shot.
So there ya have it. Just when you though it was safe to go fishing at night as long as you were with a buddy and didn't have to worry about mountain lions and rattlesnakes...... think again. Keep your radar on at all times.
Yeah they do fly them at night too. A while back my daughter and I were up at the Lagoon at night and I saw these strange lights in the sky. Red, white, and green lights flying around with no sound.
Check out this video..... you have to watch it in standard resolution and look toward the bottom half of the frame in the center.

Well anyway, after seeing the one come down without warning in the daytime.... be aware that they do fly them over the Lagoon at night sometimes too!!!
And oh yeah!! I almost forgot... I did get my gift certificate in the mail for the photo contest and I'm gonna be using that real soon.... probably get some fishing line.
Good fishing to you guys, later.............. geobass
