It rained about an hour, then cleared up. It hadn't been raining for like 2 hours before i go fishing, what would the fish be ready to bite after the rain has stopped for a few hours in clear/stained water about 78 degrees, 1-4 feet deep, alongside a wooden fence with weeds??? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I've only caught 1 and that was before the rain on a suspending jerkbait, about 3 pounds.

Cole,
I would suggest crawfish colored crankbaits ran parallel to the fence row. Also a brown/green jig and pig pitched to fence posts would be good before, during and after a rain. On cludy, rainy days crawfish become active and may be the preferred forage for the day. Sometimes during a rain I will bulge the surface with a large spinnerbait, white skirt/copper or brass blades. This works 80% of the time. Keep the spinnerbait near enough to the surface that it causes a wake across the top, you'll know when a bass strikes. There are many more techniques that work, but I'll leave them for others. Good luck my friend, Johnnie

Well Johnnie, before i read what you posted on my topic, I went fishin at the same spot. I caught 3 bass on the same rig, a bubblegum colored Zulu with a jig head. It has good action, it looks like a baitfish feeding on the bottom. The bass were 1,2,3 pounds. What consistency!!! Anyway, if anyone else has some suggestions to catch more fish, please let me know!!!

Cole,
I might try a white/chertreuse spinnerbait. This will be varied in retrieves, and pumped in some cases. Get ready for the hit to come as the lure starts to fall, or as it is picked up. Gold blades would also be a suggestion.

With the rain there may be a clarity cline. This is much like a thermo or PH cline. However, larger fish use the clarity cline to ambush their prey. I've been very successful fishing clarity clines in the clear water of Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas. My diver friends have told me about how well these work for fish, and they use them to hide from fish for viewing.

The soft plastic jerk baits, as you mentioned can also be a good choice. Try teaming them with a Daiichi Bleeding Bait Copperhead hook. I've found this style of red hook to be very effective with jerk worms. The ones I use the most is the Gambler 5 inch white or watermelon Stud.

Hope this helps.
Dan

Cole,

I would try to fish an RT Slug (white color of course) and if that does not produce, I would switch to a spit shot rigged lizzard (watermelon color-4 inch). Fish the rig around any structure or cover you can find and figure out how the fish want the bait.

I feel the first thing you need to look at is how the weather changed when the rain came through. Most likely this time of year it may have been a cold front, this explains why the Zulu jighead combo may have triggered more bites than the suspending jerk. ( which are better in clearer cooler water ) I would probably get tight to the fence and pitch jigs, tubes or creature baits. If that did not produce, then look for a reaction bite covering water with faster moving baits such as spinnerbaits or cranks as mentioned above.
