Man i must have been lucky or something because i was fishing for big bream with a tiny hook and a canepole, using bread as bait. I had caught about 8 good size bream and they were just attacking the bread i was using. I had a huge bite and i hooked it and it was a young bass, a pound or so in size. What I'm getting at is, was it luck that i caught that bass on a breadball because im sure bass dont eat bread. My explanation is the bass was going after the bream that was going for the bread and he got both in one shot.....well let me know if this has happened to any of you bassers out there.... Thanks

Cole, why do you think it strange that a bass wouldn't eat bread but bluegill do. I don't believe there is a lot of bread swimming around our lakes. Cole, I think that most likely the bass took the bread because bass are extremely competitive. The bass probably took the bread just to prove he or she could. I think if the bass was after the bluegill it would have eaten the bluegill. Bass are very selfish when it comes to eating, they'd take candy from a baby if they got the chance. By the way, I don't know if bread would be legal in a tournament Bread is also a good carp/buffalo bait, ever used bacon strips for catfish, very effective. Good luck my friend and don't be stealing bread off the supper table. Johnnie

even caught a bass on one of them budwiser can lures ,,even though you find some bass in schools I think they are dumb lol.
I agree with Johnnie the bass probubly took it just because he could,(easy snack)

Cole,
Being in Florida you would not be familiar with ice fishing. However, in ice fishing you will learn that bass will take very small offerings. Some of the jigs used are 1/80 and 1/100 ounce, and are tipped with a wax worm or Crappie Nibble. We catch a lot of panfish, but the bass hit this stuff as well. In fact, I caught the All Tackle Catch and Release World Record a few years ago, which beat the previous one, which was set 5 years prior to it in Pennsylvania. A few weeks later mine was beaten by an angler in Wisconsin. Anyway, this shows bass will take things like the bread offering.

Best of fishing,
Dan

I know this is an old post but I wanted to add to it real quick. I went to ontario Canada earlier this month smallie fishing with my buddies. We came across a wildlife refuge with a 20 acre pond in it. There is a bridge going over the pond that was loaded with people feeding bread to large/smallmouth bass. These bass were 4-8lbs, no dinks. As soon as the bread hit the water they would attack it like a pop-r. Too bad fishing wasnt permitted.

I had my 5 year old daughter humble me at Lake Gaston early this year. We were fooling around fishing for panfish off a friends dock and low and behold she caught a 2.5lb. Largemouth on a bread ball and tiny hook with 6lb. test. Her first Bass, she was tickled to catch a big fish when daddy was catching small ones...I was so proud! I expected the panfish to hit but not the Bass.

hERE IN IOWA WE HAVE A SMALL 1/2 acre city pond. Geese and ducks everywhere, people feed them bread daily. I have taught my 7 year old grandson to watch for swirls beneath the bread and cast a plastic worm at the swirl. Yesterday he caugt a 17 inch which thrilled us both. We have done this several times this year. It's kids fishing only and they really enjoy it. Bread on the water is a good thing. Johnnie
