njangler, any name brand spinning reel will get the job done, A Garcia Ambassaduer is great. Mitchel's are No. 1 and Berkley has some good products. Just stay with name brands. If you're fishing primarily clear water go with low-vis 10#, I never go less. Medium to dingy water, 12# I never go more on a spinning reel. Good luck my friend. Johnnie. P.S. you keep mentioning bass in New Jersey, bass are the same world wide, they fall for the same baits and techniques everywhere, or they don't bite at all. Johnnie.

Shimano Stradics are my pick for spinning reels. The new FH series is awesome. They weigh less than the earlier models. I won't use anything else.

As always, Johnnie and I are right together on this. I've been having great luck with the Garcia Center Drag model. This has one of the smoothest drags I've ever encountered, not to mention, smooth operation.
This goes well with the 10 pound line, but I've got mine spooled with 15 pound test Gorilla Braid.
Johnnie mentioned that bass are bass. He is correct, with a few regional exceptions, however, there are still similarities in most reactions.
Best of fishing,
Dan
