Here is something for all of you to think about. What do you feel has been the biggest innovation in the fishing industry? There really isn't a wrong answer, as there have been many. It can be tackle, equipment, or a technique. As I said there are many.

As for me, I would say the electric trolling motor, especially the foot control. Boat control is one of the most important factors in fishing, and the trolling motor has certainly help improve this part of fishing.

There are more which I could relate, but I'm going to leave some up to all of you.

Best of fishing,
Dan

Dan as always we agree, I can't live without my bow mounted foot control motor. I also think the LCD depth finders are great. Fishing web sites like this one are priceless too. However; I guess I have to vote for a technique that has made better anglers of us all-Flippin' & Pitchin'. Don't know how we got along for Dee Thomas perfected the technique and showed the world at Bull Shoals how it's done. My pick. Flippin'& Pitchin'.

I'd have to agree with both of you on that one. Boat control is a major factor in our chosen sport. With that said, I have to add the GPS. Large water and continued fishing pressure has forced all of us to find those few spots, where the normal crowd doesn't frequent. The GPS is an invaluable tool to mark said spots and allows us to return (with some accuracy) to those places again.

Herb, the GPS is the new big splash I think. With anglers, fishing bigger water and travelling upwards of 100 miles by boat I can see where it would be an invaluable tool. I haven't tried one yet, but I believe in them. (Short story) We have a small lake here in Iowa that looks to be divoid of any structure. After a couple of years of fishing the lake with deep crankbaits, I found several off-shore stumps which held fish. For awhile, these were my private honey holes and life was good. I time I went back to the lake and saw orange painted fence posts driven into each of the stumps I had found except one, don't know how they missed that one. The DNR marked the stumps for bluegill anglers. Sometimes, you just can't win!! Johnnie

Dan I've rethought my choice. Can I just say the "bass boat"? When I think back on the days of jon boats and vee bottoms, I really appreciate the bass boat and all it's comforts and gadgets. Johnnie

RODS AND REELS. From bamboo sticks to the new titanium graphite mixes. The sinsativity of the rods has come along way.

Reels that can help, and I use that word lightly, help with the professional overrun. Magnates in them to controle the speed of the spool. Some of them have up to 10 ball barrings in them. SMMOOOTH. Can't afford one of them but they are there.

In each category one could name a list of innovations that are now taken for granted by everyone who has entered the sport and watched the tube.
lures : the plastic worm over a half century ago by Creme and the Senko, with it's simplicity and almost magical qualities

Line - cheaper mass-produced braid which has allowed far less lost fish and far more bite detection sensitivity

Sonar -and for me, the sidefinder

Weedless trolling-motor prop (remember the 'prop basket'?)

Bass Pro, Cabelas etc. so anyone, anywhere can go broke buying all the above.
