I am curious as to how many of us have used barbless hooks and or treble hooks and with what degree of success. I have experimented briefly with barbless hooks , but am concerned that during a tournament the fish might have a advantage and get off. I know barbless hooks would be a great asset when unhooking bass and much easier on the fish, but can we really rely on them to hold the fish? Please give your knowledge. Thanks, Johnnie

Johnnie, I have played alittle with this myself. On T-rock there is alot of pressure on the fish, I really downsize my baits durning this time, 3 to 5 inch trick worms with very small 1/0 g-gap hooks. Since such as small package the fish really eat the bait, So I bend the barb back becuase they eat the bait deep in to there mouth. They have hooked themself hard and not very easy for the fish to get off, But hard to get the hook out without harming the fish even if you were careful. Bending the barb out of the way helped me retrieve my hook and not harm the fish for the ride to the scales.
Seemed to work for me, I do also used bent barbs when pre fishing with Jigs and Spinnerbaits, It helped my locate my fish and also allowed me to shake them off before that tournament...

Johnnie,
I don't think we ever talked about this, but I've used a spinnerbait with a barb on the opposite side of the hook point. It works like a barbed hook, but is easier to remove like a barbless. They were produced by Berkley. I think they made them in worm hooks as well, but you know me - when it comes to all the other hooks it is XPoint, Daiichi or Tru Turn.

Dan

Thanks Da, I was wondering about adding Tru-Turn barbless trebles to some of my crankbaits, getting tired of being hooked better than the fish. Don't mind the puncture, it's cutting the hook out that hurts! Johnnie
