BUMP BOARDS?

I have been told that some bump boards can be off as much as 1/8 of an inch from each other. This can be caused from a bend or poor quality control. Is this true? And which brand of bump boards do you use and most importantly trust? Bringing in a short fish is not something anyone wants to do. I have never had a problem but have come close.
One thing I know is "learn how the director bumps" as some pinch the tail and others don't.

Butch,
I use the Gator Grip board and haven't had any problems. Yes, if the base of the board is bent it could throw the measurement off. Be sure the nose of the fish is snug against the bumper, if allowed, have the weigh master flip the fish over if the fish is only slightly short, I have seen this add about 1/16 inch to a fish. Most weighmasters will do this, because not everyone measures the same side of the fish, and due to the amount of fat on one side or the other, the fish may only qualify by being measured both ways. You can make your own board with two slabs of wood, but be sure to use a stick on waterproof ruler that measures in 1/32 of an inch or less. Good luck, Johnnie

I use the Gater Grip Golden Rule Weighmaster. It has a longer measuring area, and provides some very accurate estimated weights in pounds and ounces. This can be handy for many things, including giving you an approximate weigh-in, or good for paper weigh-in tournaments.
Best of fishing,
