AGGRAVATING TIME

Post by JOE D. »

I was talking to my partner this past week, and we were getting our notes together for some upcoming tournys. We are talking and all of a sudden he says how about that guy at the ramp last year. And it hit me lot a ton of bricks,I have to look forward to the weekend warriors who don't have a clue how to launch a boat. You know the one's I'm talking about. Here's a little story,It's 98 out we are comig back in from a hard day. Here's this kid with mom, dad,& grilfriend trying to get this new procraft 20' back on the trailer. They have a 80 something toyota truck with a 4banger in it and a 5speed,a real rust bucket. Here they are son yelling at dad,dad yelling at son. Each of them taking turns trying to get this boat on the trailer and nobdy having any luck.It took over 30 mins. They blew the clutch in the truck and had to get pulled from the ramp. This is afther the son got so mad at dad that he took 6' of gelcoat off the boat.As mad as I was this was the best show of stupidity I ever wittnes. So here I go again another season to get aggravted.Or have a good story. And in case you were wondering YES I'M DONE THE HONEY DEW LIST.GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE AND FILL THE LIVE WELL.JOE D.

Sadly we have all experienced these type aggravations. I have on several occasions even backed trailers for folks new to boating. One time I was backing in someone's toyota car with a speed boat on the back because they asked me to, five speed, the whole sad story and even I was having a hard time. I got out to look the situation over and guess what?? No trailer hitch, the people had tied the trailer to the bumper with a rope. I was horrified at the thought of them pulling that down the hyway. I got them launched and actually chewed them out as tactfully as I could about the safety aspect of the situation. I only hope they learned a lesson. I am very patient with newcomers and always willing to help, but saftey has to come first. Experience is the best teacher, maybe they'll get the hang of it. Good post. Johnnie

One time I watched someone take off about 30k miles of tread off their truck tires pulling a keywest out that was full of water. He said he forgot to put the plug back in.

This past weekend, some people in a brand new Acura SUV and a brand new bayliner took 15 minutes to launch their boat. To make things worse there was a pontoon boat next to them blocking the other lane.

I've heard that some people sunk (sunk!) their Jeep Cherokee trying to pull out a 30 footer at the same launch ramp!!!

It's Florida, I guess we have too many tourists, although I don't think these people are tourists...whatever.
