If you really want to learn and learn alot, Join a bass club in your area. I'm serious here and I think the rest of the guys will back me on this one. Join a club that has team tournaments or draw type tournaments. This way you will not need a boat. You will learn all kinds of different ways to fish, from all types of fishermen. It is the best learning out there right now for the money.
Just remember you are a guest in the boat. Treat it with respect as if it were your own.(or better) Ask questions if you are with a good partner he will not mind sharing everything he knows. If he's not the talking type just watch everything he does, were he fishes, how he fishes. If he is not catching anything then you know what not to do. lol.
Take the time to learn. There are plenty of folks out there to help.

Luke,
Great advice from Conley, as always, that's how a lot of us got started.
Remember as a non-boater, you should take extra care not to crowd the front angler unless he or she invites you to the front deck. Also be prepared to cough up some expence money for gas etc. Don't take every thing you own, learn to have faith in a few good lures and techniques, no one wants a cluttered boat. Try to keep most of your stuff tightly grouped so you can be ready to blast off at any time, when the driver gets ready to move, they want to move-right now. Ask about netting fish in advance, some will want you to others will not, tell them wheter you want them to net or not. It's too late when that lunker hits and there's indecision. Offer to furnish sodas, drinks, or snacks for the tournament day. Be careful not to spill colored drinks on the carpet or step on a chocolate bar. Just be as friendly and helpful as you can. Be a gracious winner and loser. Good luck and get started. Johnnie
