I haven't found to many fish that a Rattle trap won't catch. It is a good all around lure. I also have good success with the Bandit Crankbaits. They cover a range of depths and have a good color selection. You should get a range of opinions on this question.

I love fishing the lipless crankbaits. Like bassman said, i have not come across too many bass that wont bite a rat-l-trap. It is a very productive bait used in the right conditions.

Luke,
My favorite colors in a rat-l-trap are blue/chrome, black/chrome, and those two colors in the bleeding baits. Strike King makes some awesome looking bleeding baits. The blue/chrome has been the most successful for me. I have caught more fish on that color than any other color I have used. Good luck on the water!!

i would have to agree with everyone else...a lipless bait can be fished many more ways than your traditional crankers...in some cases when fishing deep water flats or humps a verticle presentation using these baits can be productive as well...good luck to all on the water

Luke,
Sorry for the late responce, I've been on Bull Shoals, crankin' some bass. I really like the Bomber model-A Series lures, the six and seven models in bass patern, firetiger and shad. These lures work best fished around rock cover in six to eight feet of water. I too like Rat-L-Traps-chrome/blue back, chartreuse and white. I use Poe's Super Cedar crankbaits for nearly all my deep water fishing, they are made of dense wood which allows them to run deeper than plastic baits of equal size, and they don't rattle. Sometimes, rattles turn fish off, especially in clear water. I use the 300 -400 and 1600 series baits. They cover the depths from 8-10 feet, 12 to fifteen feet and down to about 18 feet. I like the (spook) color, off white with small gray lines, firetiger and shad, chartreuse back. In cold water or on tough days I always throw a regul;ar Wiggle Wart in spring crawfish-green/orange or crawfish brown and a hand painted secret bait, painted gray, I simply mix equal parts of black and white house paint to get the color, I don't use spray paint-2 reasons, I don't want a shiny bait, and the house paint makes the bait heavier and more sluggish in the water. I have only used the new Rapala DT seriesd twice now, but like them a lot. Same colors apply. Good luck. Johnnie

I'll chime in late here. I use only 4 crank baits it keeps it simplified for me.
1- Awesome Tackle Thunder Shad
2- Bagley Honey B
both are balsa with no rattle
3-Mudbug
4-Rat L Trap or Floating Trap

Craig,
It's funny, very few anglers seem to use Mudbugs, but they have remained one of my all-time favorites for years. I really liked the old shad pattern befoire they added rattles. Now I try to drill a small hole in the bait and add drops of super glue until the rattles stick to the bottom of the bait. Great lure choice! Johnnie
