Please Help

I dont know what it is I can not catch fish with a plastic worm. If anyone can give me some pointers it would be very helpful. I dont give them a chance because i do not have any confindence with them. some pointers might give me that confindence i need i know they are a go to bait when nothing is working. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Bassin NJ,
When I learned worm fishing I took only Creme Scoundrel-6" worms with a 1/4 slip sinker and 3/0 Daichii hook. Nothing else. Fished them all day anywhere I would normally cast a spinnerbait or crankbait. Ended up with six bass, no lunker but really shot up the confidence level. Hopped them of the bottom, slid them over downed logs and inched them up to stumps. Nothing fancy, but mostly a slow retreive. Keep at it, and you and the bass will be hooked. P.S. don't just try them when nothing else works, use them when the fish are on!! Johnnie

Definitely what Johnnie said. The worm is one of the most productive lures to use at any time. It is just like a jig. Use it slow and hop it off the bottom. I catch fishi on it at any time of the year. The best time to use it w/ me is when the bass are deciding wether to be active or to sit there. The worm will entice them into biting. Plastic worms come in many options today curl tail, straight tail, finesse, do nothings ect.... Here are a couple of thoughts: A straight worm must have it's action from your technique of working the bait. A senko is the exception; it has a unique wiggle when it falls. So the type changes the way you must present it. I would advise you to start with a curly tail perhaps 5 to 6 inches long use a 3/0 worm hook and fish it weightless.Work the worm very slowly around structure. If your lake is highly pressured: try wacky rigging a straight worm (check old postings). A worm will always catch lathargic fish that wont chase a fast moving bait. Try different colors as this can also make a big difference.

Don't forget to let the fish turn the bait in it's mouth; I usualy do a three count or longer begore setting the hook. Good Luck.

I WENT OUT OVER THE WEEKEND AND CAUGHT 1. I CAUGHT IT ON A 4INCH FINESSE WORM WACKY RIGGED.IT WAS A SMALL ONE BUT IT WAS A FISH NEVER THE LESS. MISSED A COUPLE BUT MY CONFINDENCE IS ALREADY GOING UP. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE AGAIN YOU GUYS....

Worm fishing is a productive way of fishing. It is generally taught to beginning fishermaen and cherished by veterans. It is a simple technique that can be fine tuned to the point of almost perfection. And you know what they say practice makes perfect, so go out there and practice.
