Recently moved to Arizona, have had some luck mainly throwing spinnerbaits, no luck with much else. I've heard everyone dropshots here since there isnt much structure to fish. I would appreciate any tips on fishing a desert lake, usually deep with a slight drop off. Are there particular lures, presentations that I should be trying???

Wish I could help you out some, but I didn't fish when I lived in AZ. Hopefully some of the pro staff have been out there and can help you out. I think I read where drop-shots were used alot, plus swim baits. Are there trout in the lakes you fish? We have one lake, and occasionly the trout guys will catch bass with trout baits. Most of those hits occur in deep water, thirty feet or so, because the trout normaly stay deep in the cooler water. Did you know that AZ has more boats percapita than any other state, go figure. I actually went to a sports show that gary yamamoto gave a talk at. he did this entire presentation on dropshotting. I dont know what it is, I just can seem to catch anything that way, I'm gonna spend a LOT of time this year working on it. I've seen people throwing the trout imitation lures, I tried it last spring, not much success. I guess if it was easy it wouldnt be as much fun..

Perhaps if you could describe the lake to me, size, clarity, temps, fishing shore or boat, altitude, ect. I'm surprised the pro staff has been so inactive, they must be down in Florida fishing. Is Show-Lo in the White Mountains?

yah, show low is the white mountains, in fact we're supposed to be getting some snow here today. It already postponed my javelina hunt one weekend, it better back off this week. I usually fish the lower desert lakes, water temp will be in the mid fifties by the end of the month, will start out dirty from all the rainfall, not much structure, rocky shorelines that drop off very steep, usually 20-30ft, there are shallow flats in a few spots, but in about march the water will be heating up quickly, I do fish from a boat. thanks in advance..

Azboomer, you might try using white bass jigs with white plastic trailers, suggest 1/4 ounce fished in twenty or more feet of water. The white doesn't spook the fish. Another tactic is long trolling deep diving minnow crankbaits. Keep the baits well behind the boat and deep. Look for any abnormal looking spots along the rocks and bluffs, rock slides are especially productive as are little nooks and crannies. Good luck, Johnnie
