CoonTail Moss

Need Some help here guys Now here in the Northeast most of are lakes are Natural Lakes as opposed to Manmade impoundments if they are Manmade thier very old The one lake I've found that dosen't get much preasure is 65% covered in Coontail Moss
What's the best way to Fish this Stuff, Max depth is 9' some of the moss in the shallow bays touches the surface there are some semi-open pockets in the 8 to 9' range but that accounts for about 15 to maybe 20% of the Lake. Lots of forage Bluegill,Yellow Perch Crappie, and some Pickerel also. Any suggestions :rolleyes:

I'm not familiar with "Coon Tail Moss", but moss is moss. Try a weekless top water, such as a buzzbait or spinerbait early & late day. It makes lots of noise and the fish will come right up through the moss to get it. Then switch to a Texas rigged worm. Jig it down through the moss vertically to where they are. Concentrate on those open pockets when you can. Use a heavy line as you may have to hog 'em up through it. Moss is some of the best structure you can find. Good luck.

Good advice from Jim! Also try a Moss Boss, these topwater baits are designed to be fished through coon tail and other vegetation. Don't be afraid to drop a jig and pig into any open pockets. The moss shouldn't grow below the six foot level. Try Rat-L-Trap lures fished aslong the edges of the moss. Rubber frogs with swimming legs are another good bet. Johnnie
