Fishing In The Weeds
I fish out of a pond and there are huge amounts of weeds along the sides. I see bass jumpin around them all the time, but every time i cast out there my bait gets stuck and i usually lose it. What am i supposed to do to no get stuck in the weeds?

Hi John. Sounds like you need to go to a higher test line. I like 20 to 30 lbs. braided line with a baitcasting reel, which gives you more winching power than a spin cast. Try a scum frog, and walk the dog with it. When you get a strike waite until you feel the fish then set the hook, otherwise you might miss em. Another good lure is a heavy jig/trailor. Cast to open spots, let the jig fall to the bottom, let it sit and twitch it. Try draging a weightless worm over the top, varying your retrieves. Peg a weight on texas rigged plastic and vary your retrieves until you find what works. Those bass are under the grass because it's like a shelter from sunlight, cooler, and in this hot weather there is more O2 given off by the weeds. Good luck. Carl

Carl gave you some dang good advise there. The scum frogs and the toad type baits will work great over all that grass. If you are losing the baits I agree on getting some stronger line, and fishing a weedless type bait.
Thanks,
