FALL BAITS
OK, guys, even though the day time temps are still in the 90's, night time temps have already dropped 10 degrees. A few trees have already started to drop thier leaves. That may be due to our drought. So what are your favorite fall baits. When, and how do you decide fall fishing has arrived? Water temps?Lets see what we come up with this year. Carl

FALL BAITS
Carl, to me fall doesn't begin until the water temperature drops below 65 degrees. Then I start throwing deep diving crankbaits to anything that looks good. I also like to use large tandem spin spinnerbaits and have copper blades to work very well. It's difficult to fish some areas when the leaves are heavy on the water. During these times I often use a jig and pig, the weight pulls the bait straight down and a slow steady retrieve usually keeps most of the leaves off the line. When the leaves sink, I don't use any bottom bouncing baits, no jigs, no soft plastics. I feel these baits are often lost in the leaf bottom and either can't be seen or are fouled by the leaves.Sometimes, I will run a Moss Boss or similar weedless bait just below the surface when the weeds are thick. These baits tend to separarte the leaves enough for the bait to get through and often , the bass will use the canopy of leaves as overhead cover and lie just beneath them. Good luck, Johnnie
