Skirts fall apart!!!!!
For many years I've been partial to Lonnie Stanley's Spinnerbaits and Jigs. Well-made, good hooks, resilient jig head paint, excellent blades on s'baits and probably the least reliable skirts in the industry!!!
It has gotten so that I get maybe 3 hard days of fishing before the skirt departs.
Have any of you run into this situation. What does an angler do? I don't want to stop using these baits. Do I write Lonnie? Will he listen?

Chances are he doesn't care about your problem .I had a similiar problem with about a dozen Stanley jigs I purchased the night before a tournament. This was before I started my own jig company. The skirts smelled like gasoline and the colors ran. I contacted Stanley but they didn't do anything to make it right. Never bought another jig again after that.

Joe, Stanley skirts were the first skirts to be made with silcone,if we remember back to Rick Clunns US OPEN win on lake Mead. The fact that the skirts could be made translucent with sparkle was a big deal and it was what they said enabled Clunn to win in the desert. When you read Clunn's read on this in "Bass Wars" he said he visualized it all before it happened( no mention of a special lure). The material they use is not the best, but they have the "brand" just as "Manns" did back in the old days. I use MTO spinnerbaits and Terminators, also some older Strike King lures. I still love "livin Rubber" , Joe hope to see you soon and remember Vinyl skirts and Okiebug catalog's. Good Bassin Dan Bass

MMT- I think you are right; my future with Stanley Jigs seems cloudy. And I will look carefully at more jig manufacturers. If you know any of them, give them my e-mail address. Thanks for the info.
Dan- Just sent you an e-mail. As I said above to MMT, it is time to split from Stanley.
I will get some skirts or better yet, I have a skirt-making kit that I haven't used since '99. Plus, I already have the rubber, so why not?
And I do miss Don Butler's shop plus those indestructible vinyl skirts. Bass Buster used them on the Scorpion for example.
Guys, thanks for your help. Much obliged.

Skirts fall apart!!!!!
I've had problems with the rubber band holding the skirt to the bait. Is this what you are talking about?
My solution was the small wire ties or zip ties that are used in electrical work I use the smallest one that the make. When I buy jigs or spinner baits I put these on and have not had one slip off yet. They last a long, long time. You can also secure a rattle to the bait in the same way and they stay in place too.

Conley- You nailed it! That will work fine.
I might want to bill Lonnie for the ties. Yes, it was that little rubber band that keeps the skirt on the bait.
As of now, I'm looking at another jig manufacturer's products. For spinnerbaits I have a skirt kit that serves me well with the basic colors. I'm also looking into the mfgr's line of skirts. Will be my first major change in jigs in years.
Thanks for the tip. JoeMo

Joemo, I guess I was unaware that Stanley made skirts, but , I suggest that you quit wearing skirts and try blue jeans. There's nothing worse than your skirt falling off during a tournament, well, yeah, I guess wearing the skirt is worse. Just a little nonsense from your friend (Ihope), Johnnie Crain Iowa Pro Staff and blue jean wearer.

Joe,
I would suggest trying Lunker Lure Jigs. They can withstand a long time of me pounding them into every piece of structure wihtin a hundred miles. Personally I use the Rattle Back and Triple Rattle Back Jigs. Only once can I recall a skirt ever coming off of one of Lunker Lures jigs. It didnt come all the way off it just slid down and that was because I had it hung up pretty good.
Good luck with your skirt issues. lol

Well Dude's I have had the same problem with Stanley, Strike King, Rattle Back, Mr. Blitz all of them. I solved it by making my own jigs & I use "zip ties" like Mofish said but I found some at Home Depot not only are they small but the tag end inserts vertical instead of horizonal. I also use a zip tie gun that tightens them really tight. I use these on jigs as well as spinnerbait.
