My Grandson, Tryaven Howard is always after me to go outback and practice casting, no matter how cold, rainy or any other excuse. Tonight it paid off for him. I was doing a seminar at an outdoor show and while I was working he entered the B.A.S.S. Casting Kids contest and won first place in the 7-10 year bracket. He won a nice rod and reel, a gold medal, a certificate and gets to advance to the Regional Finals in April. If he wins there he advances to the National Finals at the Classic.
Aside from just being a proud Grandpa, the point is practice casting is always a good idea. We spend a lot of slack time just casting at anything that resembles a target. Keeps me sharp in the off-months as well.

Thanks Conley, I work with over twenty youth anglers and even when I do seminars no matter where, I always try to get the kids in the audience involved. If I'm ever remembered for anything, I hope it will be my work with the kids.
At a local seminar last year, a youth came up to me after the show and said he really enjoyed what I was saying. Inn the fall, I got as letter from his Dad saying that the boy had been fishing every chance hye got and that before he started fishing he had the beginnings of a drug habit and just didn't feel he fit in. I hear he is doing great in school and has kcked his bad habits. That made my career!! Only one at a time, that's all I hope for.
