Basscastin, I have good success with a variety of bait cast and spinning reels. Guess I've tried most of them. I will use any quality reel and prefer a 6' 6" graphite or graphite/composite rod. For everyday use, I prefer the baitcasting combos, in very clear water I opt for the spinning reel with light line.
I have a couple of Pflueger reels and like them very much. They are a quality reel and hold up very well. Johnnie

I use Shimano Spinning reels- Sustains and Stellas and Shimano Japan casting reels Scorpion Mg's and Antares. My rod sponsor is Kistler and I prefer the Helium LTA.

for all purpose casting I go with a 7ft medium action rod. General spinning-6-6 medium action.

I’m still stuck on Ambassaduer, mostly because I haven’t bought any new reels in several years. I do like the new Pfluegers though. Had a chance to use one for a while fishing with a bud who had just bought a couple. Them suckers is smoooooooth, and cast very well. I do want to see how they hold up. (Anyone remember those Ryobi (SP?) V-Mags they put out a few years back? Cast extremely well, handled big fish well, light, easy to handle. And they fell apart in a season, the pawl/worm gears didn’t last.. I still have about four of them.)

General fishing, 6' 6" Med Cast, Same for Spin. Have shorter, longer, heavier, lighter ETC for specific apps such as Crankbaiting or Carolina rigging. I even built a 5' Cast, pistol grip for working brushy creeks from the bank.

You’ll find yourself acquiring a wide variety of equipment over time. At the very basic level tackle is just a tool to catch fish. Look at it like this, while you can drive a screw with a hammer, it’s a whole lot better to use a screwdriver.

(I have over 40 rods, afraid to count the reels or baits/hooks/weights ad infinitum. A bit much, don’t you think? )

I have several Garcia's and Bass Pro Extreem and Qualifier reels and love them. I use the baitcasting combo for all my fishing except finess fishing then its time for the spinning reel.
As far as rods go I like the Falcon Rods. Soon as my shop is finished I will be making my own custom rods. That way I can have exactly what I want with out having to settle for some things that are good and bad in store bought rods. Example costom handles and guides and color combos for what I want.

I have one Pflueger reel and I like it but just like the Bass Pro reels better and if anything goes wrong with it they change them out no questions asked. Cant beat that in my book..
