I have recently started bass fishing on Greers Ferry lake. My question is: If you were beginning to build your lure collection, what are the "must" haves?

Hello my friend. I would have to recommend= 3/8th ounce spinnerbaits, tandem spinners-silver blades & gold blades. Some various colored plastic worms in six to eight inch lengths. 1/4 or 3/16 ounce bullet weights. Some 2/0-3/0 bass hooks preferably red. A couple of shallow diving (4-8 foot deep) crankbaits in shad and crawfish colors. A coule Deep cranks (6 to 15 feet diver, smae colors. 1/4 ounce black and blue bass jigs and some pork or plastic trailers. A couple of buzzbaits, white/silver and chartreuse/silver. A handful of soft plastic frogs about four inches long, kicker legs, frog and white and black colors. These selections will allow you to fish anywhere. Good luck, Johnnie

Johhnie's advice is pretty much right on. Tackle selection wil vary slightly from region to region, but there are a few baits that any Bass fisherman must have. His suggestions cover those.

Stick of dynamite............
I couldn't help but think of the ancient joke about the most successful fisherman in the county. Crochety old bachelor named Elmo Snatchngrab

One day he ran into an old bud, Moe Stumptoe. He hadn't seen him in years. And, who just happened to be the newly appointed Game Warden for the county. The old friend hit him up right off the bat. "Hey Elmo, let's go fishin in th mawnin."

Old Elmo chewed on it for a minute or two, then reluctantly agreed. "Moe, I'se a reckonin you meet me at Old Swapwater lake long bout sunrise."

Now old Moe, he was pretty prompt, showed up early, he an Elmo dragged the leaky flatbottom to the water and off they went.

Elmo rowed them into a darned fine looking cove. Opened his tackle box and took out a stick of dynamite, lit it, tossed it a ways and scooped up the fish as they floated to the surface.

Moe was flabergasted. "Elmo! Yall caint do dat! Ain't legal!"

Elmo calmly reached into his tackle box, lit another one handed it to Moe and looked his square in the eye. "Moe, yall come out heah ta jaw, or is ya gonna fish?"
