I am currently fishing a pond that is about 12-15 acres. it is very irregular in shape. mostly 4-5ft deep with spots about 8ft. it is pretty well grown in millfoil with several cattail patches. this pond has a very good largemouth population with 9lbs. being the biggest i have personally seen. cat fish as big as 26lbs. that i have seen. what would be the best way to go about landing some of these guys. I do pretty well on plastic worms and lizzards and shad 1lb-4lb. cat fish take liver and hotdog chunks if the bluegill dont pick it off first. any tips would be appreciated.

Try coming in the late afternoons and throwing rattle-traps, "white" spinnerbaits, or poppers. Also keep a bag of "shad" colored senkos with you for fishing cover, I've had success with this particular color in both clear and stained water situations, if the water is considerably muddy use junebug. I would also recommend pitching jigs if it's practical from shore anywhere there's thick wood cover, black/blue seems to be my all around producer regardless of conditions and seems to produce best in low light conditions. This is my all around "small body of water" lure selection

Still can't stick those big guys? If you're able to collect live crayfish from that pond, hook them through the nose, and either fish them fly lined or under a large bobber. tell me how you do! [email protected]

Good advice from poorboy. I'll just add, maybe fast moving buzzbaits in white and silver or walk the dog with a Zara Spook in a light color. I've also done well in these situations buzzing a jig and pig across the surface, takes a little practice, but very effective.

Pond fishing, Well here are some baits I would try Jig-and-pig,frogs floating worms and a spinnerbait.
To find out what bait would work best, What I would do is go down and get something to tell you what the water temp is you can get something where they sell pool supplies. somethng you can tie on a string and throw it in. Finding the best water temp will land you some good fish.
another thing keep a low profile ware something camo blend in with your background. If you have trees, brush or anything large stand by it.
Remember to avoid spooking bass start off with your quietest baits and then go to one that makes a lot of noise.
Here is some temps and some baits that work.

50- 60 degrees Jig and Pig spring time.

70 degrees plus-texas rig plastic worm or
lizzard.

spinnerbaits work good in all temps.

65 plus- this is a great temp for top water.

60 to 75 floating worm in clear to stain water.

in summer where there are a lot of grass try using a rat or a frog make sure it is weedless.

I believe you will have good luck if you keep these in mine.
