Hey all,I am getting ready to fish Lake Mead in Nevada. The reports that I got, says the water temp is around 45-55 degrees.I have some crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinners, and jigs.Do I need anything else to use?How would I fish these lures,in cold water,to get the bites I want? Also, what should I look for in the way of cover,to find bass? Any help would be gratefull. Thanks guys, you are still the best. bassman

Bassman I'd be presumptious in offering any advice, since I've never wet a line west of the Mississippi, even though Iused to live in Az. I've read that swim baits are popular out west in those deep cool lakes. I think I would look for structure, shallow next to deep, and vary the speed of my presentations, starting with slow and slower. When fishing relatively shallow I'd go with suspending baits, and swim. jigs. Those are just guesses; I would definitly track down someone who knows the behavior of fall bass in your area. Sorry, not much help, but good luck. Carl.

Bassman, fished on 10/08 with a jig and had one of my best days for LM in a long time. Water was very cold, did not have a temp gauge. Used a tom monsoon swim jig tipped with a zoom speed craw in 10-18 ft of water. Caught a 5.1, 3.8,4.4, 3.3, 2.9, 2.5, and a 4.0. These were caught over a very short time. Lost a 6.5 at boat side when I was attempting to lip it. I let the jig hit the bottom and very slowly worked it in. I mean real slow. I am not a jig guy I'M a soft plastic guy. I was determined to learn Jigs and knowing the bite had been poor, and Jigs are known to be great cold water baits I gave it a try. Glad I did!

Hey all, sorry I've been gone so long. The trip to Lake Mead went better than expected.I tried the jig,and on the first cast, caught a nice 3 pounder. The bass hit the jig on the fall.I also tried a few tactics, that a few people at Bass Pro Shops in Las Vegas gave me.I tried a jerkbait, with a small weight, and used it like a jig.The action at the bottom worked wonders.I don't think the bass had ever seen that before.Caught several largemouth, over 4 lbs. Thanks for the advice. You all know how to make a fishing trip, the trip of a life time.
