Basscastin, there are no hard and fast times to begin fishing for bass. I usually start as soon as there is enough open water to use a boat. Usually, the first open water is clear so I start with natural color baits such as shad, bluegill and baby bass paterns. I try to find good cover with some deep water nearby on the northeast shorelines. The N.E. shoreline receives most of the sunshine during the day and is more protected from Northeast winds, any southwest wind blowing onto the bank is a plus. Fishing will generall be slow at first and I prefer to fish from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, to take advantage of the warmest time of day. I look for chunk rock banks if possible and fish them slowly. Next I try fallen trees or even stumps, I try to avoid shaded areas, there can be a one or two degree difference in water temperature in the shad. I look for warmer water. Find some type of bait fishg and you should catch a few fish. Sometimes, huge female bass move very shallow in thge first open water. Good luck, let us know how your year is going. Johnnie
