Bad Weekend

Fished one of our couples tournaments this weekend and hit a rock with the prop. Messed everything up. I guess the gears in there came apart and tried to escape out the side of the lower unit. Now there is a quarter sized crack in the lower unit with oil coming out of it. The inside of the prop is missing all the teeth that line it up with the shaft and it wont come off for nothing.

No telling what thats going to cost? I made the call to the insurence agent and he said take it to the shop and get a estimate and let him know. So I guess I will find out real soon. Bad thing is now I cant go prefish for our last tournament of the year. We are only 10 points out of the lead for anglers of the year.

Hopefully it wont take them long to slap another one on there. Or at least I hope its that easy to fix?!!!!

Conley: sorry to hear you had this problem!
Anyone who hasn't hit their lower unit / skeg will, I guarantee it. As far as the lower unit is concerned: removing it and replacing it is typically no more that a 1 hour job. I have seem lower units priced from $2,800 to 1,500. You have both new as well as re-manufactured available for most any outboard. FYI: Last month I did the same in Sturgeon Bay WI. Fortunately I only beat up the skeg and prop. I was lucky as it cost $210 for prop repair an $80 for a stainless steel skeg cover. I already have someone in line to buy my boat at the end of this summer, so when I hit the rock bar I didn't even want single dime into the boat.

Hope all works out with your issue and lets hope neither of us run into anything else for a long while.

Well I got the boat out of the shop! No chance to pre-fish this week. Lakes are all flooded and closed down. The lake we will be fishing is going to open up today but thanks to work I wont be able to go fish till the day of the Tournament.

So I guess I will just go fishing and see what happens. I usally do better when I don't pre-fish so maybe its a good thing. We will see what happens I'll keep you posted!
