Well Dan,
Fishing on the Potomac was the toughest I have ever seen. There were only 38 limits brought to the scales for the three days of the Bassmaster event. I only wieghted in 2 fish for 4.8lbs the first day. The second day I weighted in 3 bass for 8.8lbs and that moved me to 42nd place. I fell out of the money on day three with one bass for 2lbs 13oz. I missed cashing a check by 11ozs. I was working the same pattern as the winner, but unfortunately I was sharing my water with two other competitors who lucked into the spot mid-day the first day. I finished the tournament in 58th with six bass for 15.8lbs, 11oz shy of a check. All I needed was one more bass on day three. All I can do is put it behind me, and start thinking about the BFL event on the Potomac in two weeks. I'm sure the fishing will be much better. This past week the fish were stacked on very small specific spots, and a bass would move in to feed and you could catch it. I spent most of the tournament casting different crankbaits and jerbaits to the same spot, kinda boring. The spot I shared with two other competitors produced over 53lbs of bass, 45lbs is what won the event, but that angler had it all to himself whereas I was sharing mine.

Dan,

Thanks for the support. The Foxwoods tournament on Candlewood was also a tuff one. There was 146 teams competing and almost half the field had a total weight for 2 days of 6 lbs, or less! 20 teams “0'd” both days. We had a good pattern going in practice but the trouble with it was that it focused on steep points leading into spawning flats and we had to struggle to even find a point that wasn't occupied by 3 boats during the tournament. On day 1, we managed to boat 2 nice smallies that combined weighed 6.71 Lbs. That put us near the cut-off mark for a check. On day two, we started off the day with a 2.54 largemouth on the first point we hit. At our second spot, I managed to hook into a giant smallmouth that was well over 5 ½ lbs. I got her two the boat and Joey made 3 good attempts to get her in the net… on the last try, she was just laying on her side motionless but the console was in the way and Joey could just reach the fish with one hand. The jerkbait got hooked on the net and the fish bucked and knocked the net sideways and got out. That fish cost us big… it would have been enough to move us up around 15 lbs, which would have given us a check and possibly $1,000 for day two Lunker. At the end of the two days, we ended up in 63rd place with 9.25 lbs. (Nothing to write home about).

Take care,

Brendan

Tim- This past week I was driving up from Florida and passed High Rock Lake. The major river connnected to the lake contained water that resembled Starbucks products more than water. I said to myself: "Glad I'm not trying to compete in this fishing hole."
I salute you for being able to produce the weight you did. Keep up the good work. We're all pulling for you.
Brendan- Fishing in what is now my home lake
you managed to produce well and stay competitive through the entire T. Apparently there weren't that many others who could say they did as well as you. Keep putting those points on the board. Good luck next time.
Thanks to both of you for your reports.
Bass Regards, JoeM
