Fenwick HMG Triggerstik Rod Review: Marques
Testing Conditions:
I matched HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F with a Shimano Chornarch reel with 25lbs McCoy Mean Green mono line. I’m used JD Lures JD’s perfect jig in watermelon color. I’m fished a natural grass filled lake in Northern Illinois with clear water. Weather was hot temps in the 90’s with little to no wind. The lake has some amount of fishing pressure as well.
Casting:
Casting was good, but I feel the real application for this rod is a Flippin stick. The HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F from Fenwick is very light weight, so you can flip all day long and not get tired. The line flows through the guides with no problems.
Sensitivity:
The HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F is a very sensitive rod. I flipped in some heavy milfoil matts. I was able to feel every fish bite through the matts and still able to pull the fish out with no issues.
Power:
This HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F is a Flippin and pitchin machine. You will have no problem pulling bass out of anything with this pole. It’s got power, backbone and is well priced. Awesome!!!!!
Durability:
I put this rod through a 10 hour tournament practice style day & this rod held up very well. Lot of dropping it on the deck and stepping on it and this HMG held up very well.
Design/Comfort:
This HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F rod is very comfortable to handle and to fish with. The reel seat fits my low profile Shimano reel with no problem. This combo is very comfortable for me to hold and fits well in my hand.
Applications:
This rod is definitely a Flippin rod, heavy cover rod. No crankbaits or Topwater baits here folks!!!
Overall Thoughts:
I was very impressed with this rod. If you are looking for a 7’ Flipping stick or a Frog Rod the HMG Triggerstik GT70MH-F is it. Unfortunately I used big mono for this review, but I bet braided line and this rod is unbeatable combination. That is what I would recommend.
