Fenwick EliteTECH Smallmouth Series: Frank

Fenwick EliteTECH Smallmouth Series Rod ESMS63MH-F

Rating: 9.00

First Impressions:

A great looking rod, a soft green color, and a great looking cork on the handle.  The TAC inlay set off nicely from the fine grain cork.  The split grip was clean looking and not too space age.  The handle fit my hand offering me a full hand feel.  It balanced nicely with the reel I used.  A quick flex with the tip on the floor presented the J form curve I expect and prefer from a fast action rod.

Fenwick HMG Spinning Rod Review: Frank

Fenwick HMG Spinning Rod GS66MH-F

First Impressions:

I thought the blank looked sharp, a nice deep rich color with a glossy finish.  The reel seat and handle seemed a bit odd, like someone couldn’t make up their mind to commit to a split grip or keep it a full grip.  The handle color and grainy appearance put me off a little.  Even though it’s not cork but a material called TAC, it looked like the grainy cork handles of cheap 1960’s solid fiberglass rods.

Fenwick HMG Spinning Rod Review: Dave

Fenwick HMG Spinning Rod GS66MH-F

First Impressions:

First thing you notice about the HMG GS66MH-F is its appearance. The rod has a black epoxy coated blank and the wrapping on the guides are black with gold tips, which goes nicely with the gold lettering on the blank. The grip is very interesting; it is what Fenwick calls TAC, which stands for technically advanced construction. It is designed for the angler to have better grip during wet conditions so it’s a different material then traditional cork.
