Hook A Kid

At the ripe young age of 3 or 4, my father took me on my first fishing trip. We went perch jerking in his old wooden, V bottom boat on the Lake of the Pines in East Texas. After returning home with a stringer of perch, dad told me it was time to clean the fish. It was then that I took off down the hall where my parents found me in the bathroom with a bar of soap in hand, scrubbing those little guys. I’ve been hooked on fishing ever since.

We bass angler’s are always looking for new weapons in our ever growing arsenal of tackle. If it is new or different and catches fish, we want one, or two or three…. The tube jig is just such a bait. Although on the market for several years now, tube baits have undergone some changes and are making a big comeback.

Spring Fever

As the days begin getting warmer, spring fever kicks and its time to go bass fishing. With the warmer days and nights, come warmer water temperatures. That equates to the fish moving into shallower water on our local lakes, creeks, rivers and ponds. This is a time when most fish become active again and are easier to catch.

In The Heat Of The Night

Anyone that lives south of the Red River knows that "hot" does little to describe the horrific heat we have been experiencing lately. With temperatures surpassing the 100-degree mark for several consecutive days, most folks don’t think about hours on the water as being much fun. In fact, this is the time of year I turn to fishing in the dark, night fishing. Most importantly to me, it is not nearly as hot fishing at night as it is during the day in this time of year.

Preserving The Resource

As a professional angler, though not full time, I find it difficult to harm, kill or eat that which helps put food on the table. I can't tell you how long it has been since I put a bass to the knife that eventually ended up on my plate. It's been years. I just can't bring myself to destroy something that I earn part of my living on.
